Our Catchment
The Pine Rivers catchment is a diverse and vital region located just north of Brisbane. Stretching from the D’Aguilar Ranges to the coastal plains of Bramble Bay, it encompasses a wide range of ecosystems, land uses, and communities. The catchment includes two major river systems — the North Pine and South Pine Rivers — which merge and flow into Moreton Bay through a rich estuarine and marine environment.
This area is home to thriving biodiversity, significant waterways, and both rural and urban communities. It also supports important natural reserves such as Lake Samsonvale, Lake Kurwongbah, D’Aguilar National Park, and Brisbane Forest Park.
But the catchment faces growing pressures — including land clearing, urban development, erosion, and invasive species. These challenges impact water quality, wildlife habitats, and the long-term sustainability of the region.
At PRCA, we’re dedicated to supporting the health of the Pine Rivers catchment through conservation, education, and community action. We work alongside landholders, volunteers, and partner organisations to protect this incredible region — both now and for future generations.

What Is a Catchment?
A catchment is an area of land where water collects when it rains, flowing into creeks, rivers, wetlands, and eventually the ocean. The Pine Rivers catchment covers over 825 km², with more than 1,700 km of waterways that support a wide range of ecosystems and land uses.
