North Pine River Source Protection Program

The North Pine River Source Protection Program is an initiative dedicated to safeguarding the water quality of the North Pine River drinking water catchment by addressing pollution, erosion, and environmental pressures from agriculture and urbanisation. Led by Seqwater in partnership with the Pine Rivers Catchment Association, the program has received nearly $4 million in funding over five years to enhance catchment management activities and improve water quality over the long term. Key actions include managing invasive species, preventing soil erosion, and implementing sustainable land management practices across more than 40 properties along the North Pine River, Laceys Creek, and other major tributaries. Efforts such as reducing invasive plants like Cat’s claw creeper and Madeira vine have improved water quality and ecosystem health, ensuring the long-term sustainability of the river for both the environment and surrounding communities.

Healthy Land and Water partners with PRCA and Seqwater to implement their own Source protection Program, with PRCA taking the lead on landholder and community engagement.

This program is proudly supported by Seqwater and Healthy Land and Water.
